Trial Days 1–3
The first three days of the Tupac Shakur murder trial focused on the prosecution and defense laying out their opposing versions of the case, along with testimony revisiting the events surrounding the 1996 shooting. E.D.I. Mean (Malcolm Greenidge) testified about being in the Lexus directly behind Tupac and Suge Knight’s BMW. He saw an arm holding a gun come from the rear window of a light-colored Cadillac but could not identify the occupants.

Former Compton detective Robert Ladd testified that Keffe D was a South Side Crips “shot caller” and said younger members would not have carried out a shooting like this in his presence without his approval. The prosecution then rested its case after roughly two dozen witnesses.

The defense called three former Las Vegas police officers. Former detective Dan Long admitted investigators could not independently verify that Keffe D was inside the Cadillac. Keffe D did not testify. The defense rested, and prosecutors called no rebuttal witnesses.

Years of Questions
For nearly three decades the killing of Tupac Shakur remained an open, unresolved case. Witnesses were reluctant, accounts conflicted, and no one was charged. Investigators have said the case never formally closed.
That changed in 2023, when Las Vegas police executed a search warrant and Duane “Keffe D” Davis was arrested and charged. He has pleaded not guilty. The proceedings that follow will test, in court, what prosecutors allege and what the defense disputes.
